This scholarship is based on the CHARACTER COUNTS! pillar of Citizenship. It honors four young citizens of Elk Grove Village who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our nation in the wars that followed the September 11, 2001 attacks on our nation. The four soldiers are: James S. Cronin, Phillip E. Frank, John T. Olson, and Adriana N. Salem. It is presented by a partnership of the Village of Elk Grove, The Friends of the Elk Grove Library, and the Community Character Coalition of Elk Grove.
Four scholarships will be awarded. Each is a non-renewable $1,000 scholarship to be used at a college or university, a junior college, or a trade or vocational school.
Applicants must be Elk Grove Village residents.
Applicants must be graduating high school seniors beginning their college studies in the Fall Semester 2020.
There are no restrictions regarding race, religion, national origin, gender or physical disability.
Applicants must submit a completed three-page application (attached) along with the following:
- Essay. (See Essay Guidelines on Page 3 of Application Form)
- One letter of reference from an employer or community member.
- One letter of reference from a teacher, school counselor, coach or principal.
- Official High School Transcript.
- Only complete applications with all required documentation will be considered.
3:00 pm on April 14, 2020
Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.
Submit one completed hard copy of the application form along with all required documents in a sealed envelope.

Awarding of Scholarships:
The 2020 winners will be awarded at the Elk Grove Village Board of Trustees Meeting on Tuesday evening, May 12, 2020.
